The 18th Century landscape architect Lancelot ("Capability") Brown was said to have acquired his nickname by frequently declaring that a given site was "capable" of becoming whatever he had in mind for it.

It could be said that a landscape architect is the most generous of artists. In many instances a planting does not reach its full maturity for several generations. The designer cannot hope to see the completed vista, which is planted anyway.

While not pretending to make anything so grand as the parks that are the legacy of Capability Brown, it is in the spirit of finding beauty in our environment, and sharing it with others, that this web log is published.
